AN instructor blamed students at his training centre after child pornography was found on his laptop computer, a jury heard.
Albert Adderley, 55, is alleged to have downloaded indecent images and movie clips and taken part in vulgar online chats.
Teesside Crown Court heard how “Al” was logged on as the user when, it was claimed, the computer was used illegally.
Married Mr Adderley denies responsibility for any of the alleged internet paedophile activity between 2006 and 2009.
After his arrest in August 2009, Mr Adderley, of Durham Road, Stockton, answered “no comment” to police questions.
Later, he submitted a statement suggesting apprentices he trains could be responsible for sabotaging the laptop.
Ian Mullarkey, prosecuting, said checks were carried out at South West Durham Training, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. Senior staff at the centre said Mr Adderley was not working on the day the porn video clips were viewed.
Ray Savage, a forensic computer analyst, also ruled out “malicious viruses”.
Mr Savage told the jury that the chat-log was dated November 2006, four days after the computer was first switched on. He said the internet history showed searches had been made for “spanking”, “pre-teens” and “underwear” two months later.
Mr Adderley, who worked at the centre until 2008, denies charges of making and possessing indecent images of children.
Mr Mullarkey told the jury: “You must reach your verdicts in a cold, rational and thorough manner.
“Cases of this type can cause everyone to have an emotional response. People can become upset that these images exist, and angry that people wish to view them, but emotion should play no part.”
Yesterday, one of the training centre’s bosses told the jury about the safeguards they have in place to prevent access to banned websites.
The case continues.
