A MAN jumped from a railway bridge in front of a large crowd and specially trained police officers after a stand-off last night.
Cleveland Police were alerted to the 18-year-old on the structure at Coach Road, Brotton, East Cleveland, around 6pm.
Specially trained officers were sent to the scene, but, as the crowd gathered nearby, at around 9.30pm the man jumped off the bridge, into a tree and then fell to the ground.
"He was taken to James Cook University Hospital, and at this stage he is believed to have received minor injuries," a spokeswoman for the force said.
"The man has been arrested under the Mental Health Act."
Coach Road was closed until around 11pm.
"A large crowd had gathered during the incident and a 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and obstructing police," the spokeswoman added.
