MORE details have emerged of a smash after which a motorcyclist had to be airlifted to hospital on Sunday.
The accident happened at Scotch Corner at around 11.40am as a 52-year-old man from Northumberland was riding his orange Suzuki motorcycle around the roundabout.
He was intending to travel northbound along the A1 when a silver Hyundai Matrix joined the roundabout from the A66, intending to travel southbound.
The two vehicles collided and the biker was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious head, neck, back and chest injuries, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 69-year-old man from West Yorkshire, was uninjured.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, or anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to impact to contact them on 0845-6060247.
