Cockfield Quoits Club held their annual ‘open day’ yesterday and after John - Dolly - Dalton promised us there would be no rain, the inevitable happened!
The rain didn’t dampen the competition though and twenty four people entered for prize money totalling £100.
The event was won by Geoff Hare who beat off stiff competition from Trevor - Roboquoit - Cooper.
One of the funniest ‘quotes’ of the day came from Barry - Midgey - Maughan, when he was drawn to play against Trevor in the first round. “Win or lose, I’m only playing one game on account of me bad back” says Barry. WIN? Against Trevor?? I loved the lads’ optimism!
It was good to see a packed Middle House and the quoits club would like to thank Andrew and Sas for putting on a fabulous buffet at no charge.
Incidentally, the quoits club are currently 2nd in the league, which is a tremendous achievement considering half of our team have never played before.
