POLICE are warning drug users who may have taken LSD to seek medical treatment if they are feeling unwell.

It follows the reported of a woman being admitted to hospital in a critical condition at 4.45am today.

She was said to have suffered an apparent adverse reaction having taken the hallucinatory drug, also known as 'acid'.

Police said although critical, initial reports from Gateshead's Queen Elizabeth Hospital suggested it was not considered to be a life threatening situation.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

But police fear a further four or five people may also have taken drugs from the same batch at a house in the Gateshead area and may also be feeling ill.

Superintendent Jo Farrell said: "Anyone who has taken drugs and feels unwell should seek medical attention immediately.

"Additionally I would ask friends and family of those who were socialising in the Gateshead area last night to check on their welfare as there may be individuals who have taken drugs who are too ill to seek medical treatment.

"Medical professionals in the area have been alerted.

"If anyone has any information regarding this they should contact police immediately."
