POLICE are seeking witnesses to a collision in which a pregnant woman was injured as she drove her son in her car.

It took place as she was at the wheel of her black Renault Modus car, waiting at the A167 roundabout at Croxdale, south of Durham, having travelled with her six-year-old son on the road from Tudhoe, near Spennymoor.

A red 4x4 vehicle collided with the rear of her car, injuring her and damaging the car.

The driver, who is seven months pregnant, is continuing to receive treatment for a back injury, although she was not detained in hospital.

Police believe the suspected vehicle involved in the collision, a red Isuzu Trooper, registration M193 POA, was abandoned in Wolsey Road, Spennymoor, a short time later and its driver was said to have made off from the scene.

The only description available of him was that he was wearing a camouflage jacket, with the hood pulled up, and blue jeans.

Police are keen to trace any witnesses to the crash, at around 10.30am on Wednesday June 1, or anyone who may have seen the driver making off in the Isuzu.

Anyone with information is asked to ring Durham Police and ask for the investigating officer, PC Gary Emerson, at the force's south road policing unit, on 0345-60 60 365, or the independent Crimestoppers charity, on its freephone line, (0800) 555111.
