KEEPERS at a North Yorkshire zoo are proudly showing off their latest arrival - a baby Rothschild's giraffe.
The six-foot tall male calf, who is yet to be named, was born at 1am last Friday at Flamingo Land near Malton.
Rothschild's giraffes are part of an EEP (European Endangered species Programme), in which zoos around Europe work together to breed and protect the animals.
With less than 670 individuals remaining in the wild, the Rothschilds giraffe is more endangered than African elephants.
A spokeswoman for Flamingo Land said: "This new arrival signals hope for the species as numbers continue to decline in the wild due to habitat loss and hunting.
"The success is the result of eight years of planning and hard work which has included nine different giraffe transfers, including moving animals from zoos in Holland and Germany."
Visitors can catch a glimpse of the youngster in the giraffe house.
