ARTISTS across Redcar and Cleveland will throw open their doors over the spring bank holiday 28, 29, 30 May in a rare opportunity for the public to experience the day to day life of an artist at work.
The ‘Open Studios’ event will unveil local creative talent to celebrate everything from fine art painting to performance across the borough.
The ‘Exhibitionists’ will be representing 37 artists, 15 galleries and venues and offering 3 workshops to the public.
Leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council, Cllr George Dunning, said: "The Open studios event is a great opportunity to celebrate and support our richly diverse creative sector.
The creative industries help to attract visitors and investment to the area and we are committed to supporting this sector wherever possible to enable it to flourish."
There is a launch event at Profile Gallery starting at 4.00 pm with stalls in the station square in Saltburn. This is followed by a celebration of great work from local artists including didgeridoo players, musicians, actors and performers like Elaine Palmer and The Bronze Medal. Tickets can be obtained from Profile Gallery.
Afternoon tea will be served at Ormesby Hall from 1.30 pm – 5.00 pm on Sunday 29 May. A medley of artists will be exhibiting and talking about their work. Keith Moss photography will be hosting a live fashion photo shoot so if you want to join in come along.
Organiser of the event, Jenny Hall, said: “There is an impressive array of artists in the area and many of them have already gained national and international recognition.
The Open Studios event is a chance to celebrate and support our local creative talent.”
The creative industries are a growth sector for new businesses and employment in Redcar and Cleveland. Further growth in Redcar is planned with the development of The Hub, a new creative industries centre, and The Vertical Pier, which will offer space for artists to showcase their work.
