WILL Smith continues to contribute to healthy opening stands with Michael Di Venuto without being able to go on to the big score he craves.
When Durham followed on 373 behind Somerset the opening pair got their heads down and grafted to take the total to 89 in the 40th over.
Smith then fell lbw, pushing forward to Peter Trego, and must have reflected on the injustice as Gordon Muchall immediately cashed in on the openers’ hard work.
With their senior bowlers starting to tire, Somerset brought on 18-year-old Lewis Gregory and he bowled two long hops in his first over, which Muchall put away to the cover boundary.
He sped to 21 at tea, when Di Venuto was on 73 out of a total of 127 for one.
