A YOUNG girl fighting for her life after a fatal fire at her home has been transferred from a specialist unit in Hull to her local hospital.

Catriona Braithwaite, nine, remains critical, but stable in intensive care at James Cook University Hospital.

Cleveland Police launched a murder inquiry after an investigation confirmed the fire may have been started deliberately in the lounge of the house in Redcar.

Philip Braithwaite, 49, and his daughter, Jessica, seven, died after they were trapped in their semi-detached house in Hawthorn Road, shortly after 11pm on Monday, May 2.

Detective Sergeant Paul Husband said: "Catriona has been receiving treatment at James Cook University Hospital for the past few days and she remains in a critical but stable condition in intensive care.

"Specially trained Family Liaison Officers are supporting Mrs Braithwaite who is a key witness in this tragic case.

"Our enquiries are still ongoing and I can confirm we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. We are currently in the process of obtaining evidence for a future inquest on behalf of HM Coroner."

Anyone with any information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact DS Husband on 01642-302626.
