Darlington fans are set to line the streets to hail their last gasp heroes on Wednesday (May 11) after a sensational victory in the FA Trophy.
The Quakers lifted the trophy after a nail-biting 1-0 win against Mansfield Town at Wembley. To celebrate the victory, the team has been invited to a civic reception at the Town Hall on Wednesday where they will be showing off the newly-acquired silverware to their fans from the balcony overlooking the forecourt.
The victorious team will arrive by bus at the Town Hall at 6.30pm on Wednesday and will then be shown to the balcony where they will thank their loyal supporters.
The Worshipful, the Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Bryan Thistlethwaite will congratulate the team on behalf of the Borough. Coun Thistlethwaite, said: “This was a great victory for the team and the whole of Darlington is very proud of their efforts. I know many fans travelled down to Wembley to watch the match and I am sure this support helped in their victory. “I am delighted that we can give the club this reception to celebrate their success and I hope many supporters will come down to the Town Hall to see the cup and to show their appreciation to the players.”
Due to the reception, Feethams/Church Row will be closed to traffic from 6pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday May 11. The closure will be from the junction with Tubwell Row to the junction with Houndgate.
