A LORRY driver has been killed after his vehicle overturned on a country lane.
The incident happened on Butterwick Road, just outside Fishburn, County Durham, at 8.55am this morning.
The driver, a man in his late 50s from the Derwentside area of County Durham, was thought to have been travelling from Coxhoe to Fishburn.
A police spokesman said that for some reason the vehicle overturned, but officers are still investigating the cause.
He said: "At present we believe that he may have been taken ill at the wheel."
The man is yet to be formally identified, but it is thought he is married with two grown up children.
The road was closed until about 4pm and the lorry's load, rubbish being carried in a skip, was strewn across it.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the lorry before it overturned or who witnessed the incident to call the collision investigation unit on 0191-375-2159.
