THE Labour party has held Darlington Borough Council after increasing its majority.

Labour gained 34 seats - five more than in 2007 - taking four from the Conservatives and one from the Liberal Democrat.
The Conservatives now have 14 councillors and the Liberal Democrats five.
Councillor Bill Dixon was also re-elected and will take over as council leader after John Williams announced his retirement in the run-up to the elections after 22 years at the helm.
