TADEA Middlesbrough Lions travel to Durham Wildcats this Sunday for what is viewed as a crucial game by shooting guard Ryon Dixon. Dixon was one of a number of players who struggled to find their shot against Hull but that seems to have made them even more determined "We were not at our best against Hull in terms of shooting. The driving, especially from Tom (Robinson) was excellent and some of the passing and ball movement was the best I have seen and despite our poor shooting we almost clinched the game."
When asked how to mentally prepare for the next game, the 6'2 shooter replied "It is hard knowing you haven't shot well in the last game, but often some of the best displays will come after a bad one. I will be working hard on my shot this week and I, along with some others have a little extra to prove in training so this will hopefully benefit myself and the team."
Lions were missing athletic forward Rob Wright for the second game and again could have been the difference in winning the game. Wright is Lions tallest player at 6'6 and the team were missing the double points and rebounds he would have brought. It is expected that he will return to training this week and be available for selection on Sunday.
One player who may be missing is Anthony Humes, who has impressed in the last two games. The powerful forward is undergoing medical treatment for a blow to the mouth suffered against Hull and will more than likely miss the game.
On the shooting problem of last game; Coach Thomson indicated his frustration at the poor stats. "To be so close to victory and we were literally only needing one or two of those missed shots to drop, is a bitter pill to swallow. We have some of the best shooters in the league, but we must learn to sharpen our concentration. Mental focus is vital to a shooter. You have to be ready in your shooting position to catch the ball and shoot before a defender or even yourself can put you off! We have three spot up shooters in Ryon, DaWaun and Patrick and they have to produce the goods. At least one of the three needs to enjoy a good shooting game."
"On a positive I have faith in all three producing on Sunday and once we have this in addition to the inside threats, we will be a very difficult team to beat."
The game takes place at the Spectrum Leisure Centre, Willington, Crook, County Durham DL15 0ET. Tip off is at 2pm and spectators are welcome to come along and support the TADEA Lions.
Please note that the junior training session on Sunday will be cancelled due to the game.
