FAMILIES got together and had fun at a disabled cycling session organised by a charity at a new venue.
The Gateway Wheelers, run by Mencap, held their first session at Darlington’s Eastbourne Sports Complex, the new base for their Teesside events.
The group, which caters for people with all types of disability, from dyslexia to wheelchair users, has a range of bikes designed for people with disabilities.
The group had previously met at the Admiralty site, near Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Brian Milner, one of the organisers, said: “It went really well considering it was our first time there.
“It is about encouraging people to work together and have fun.
“A lot of these young people and adults have never had the experience of riding a bike and having the wind through their hair.”
The group’s next Tees Valley session will be at the Eastbourne Sports Complex from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, February 20.
