CELEBRATIONS marking the 150th anniversary of the creation of a town have begun.
An exhibition at Saltburn, east Cleveland, includes a log book showing the number of people who crossed the nowdemolished Halfpenny Bridge in the 1880s, a bridge crest lent by Skelton Castle, and photographs of Medd’s grocery shop.
The exhibition is on show until next Saturday in Windsor Road Community Centre.
Saltburn Community and Arts Association have organised events throughout the year, including lighting the cliff face next to the town and a real ale festival.
The main focus of events will be in August, the anniversary of the first train arriving in the town. It is hoped a steam locomotive will visit the town to mark the occasion.
See Echo Memories on Thursday for more about the history of Saltburn.
