TWO men were attacked by robbers within an hour of each other in the same area of Middlesbrough.

The incidents happened last night in the Beechwood and Grove Hill areas of the town.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said last night: "The first occurred at 10.45pm as a 51-year-old man was walking along the Black Path from Beechwood and the Easterside Social Club.

"As the man approached the junction with Kirkham Road a gang of four males have demanded the victim hand over all his belongings.

"When the victim refused the males have assaulted him before fleeing across fields and then on to Westerham Grove, Middlesbrough."

The gang made off with 5 in cash and other items.

The second robbery happened as a 56-year-old man was walking on Bishopton Road at 11.45pm.

"Two males have assaulted the victim before taking cash and property from him," the spokesman said.

Both of the victims were taken to hospital for treatment, but later released.

"Police would like to reassure the public that incidents of this type are extremely rare, however, there will be additional patrols in the area," the spokesman said.
