THREE arrests have been made after an armed seige took place in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside today.
Pupils at nearby schools were told to stay indoors as a precaution during the incident.
Northumbria Police were called to Burnside Road at 11.19am this morning after concerns were raised for a resident in the street.
Two men and a woman have been arrested and an airgun has been seized.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Police were called to Burnside Road at 11.19am this morning following concerns about a resident.
"Police attended and have closed off Burnside Road and we are currently making enquiries."
A North Tyneside Council spokesperson said: “The safety of our children and young people is always our priority. Acting on the advice of Northumbria Police, and as a matter of precaution, pupils and staff at North Tyneside schools were advised to remain on school premises for a short period today while police officers dealt with an incident.
”No pupils or staff were directly involved and the action was a prudent precautionary measure."
