AN exhibition of art by students from 11 Catholic schools across the region has opened.

The Northern Saints exhibition, organised by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle’s Catholic Partnership South group, will be in Durham Cathedral until Friday, February 4.

It will be at County Hall, in Durham City, from Monday, February 14, until Monday, February 28.

Students from The English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College, in Hartlepool, created work based on the lives of saints.

David Oram, 17, said: “Doing this is something new for me. It’s quite cool.”

Srindhi Krishnamoorthy, 17, said: “I have never been to Durham Cathedral before and it is quite amazing to have my work on display here.”

The schools involved are: Carmel RC College, Darlington; Our Lady and St Bede’s, Stockton; St Michael’s RC, Billingham; St Aidan’s, Sunderland; St Anthony’s Girls’ School, Sunderland; St Bede’s, Lanchester; St Bede’s and Byron Sixth Form, Peterlee; St John’s, Bishop Auckland; St Leonard’s, Durham City; St Robert of Newminster, Washington; and The English Martyrs School, Hartlepool.

Entry to the exhibition is free.
