MAGICIAN Paul Daniels is having a clear out of his old tricks – and is even selling one of his old wigs.

The Middlesbrough-born entertainer has put the items up for sale on auction website eBay.

The star of The Paul Daniels Magic Show on BBC1 from 1979 to 1994 is selling some of his back catalogue of tricks.

Late last night, bids for the wig had reached £62.

In a comment left on the website, Mr Daniels said: “When I was clearing out my props store a few weeks ago, I came across a box of the wigs I used to wear when I thought it was necessary. For a laugh I put one on, took the above photograph and made ’em laugh on Twitter. It surprised me when peeps started making offers.”

The 72-year-old has put dozens of items on eBay and has provided details about several of his wellknown illusion props.

But under the rules of the Magic Circle, members who disclose magic secrets to non-magicians can be expelled. Whoever buys the props will be able to carry out the tricks themselves, possibly a breach of the Magic Circle’s code of secrecy.

However, Nick Fitzherbert, a spokesman for the Magic Circle, said a complaint against Mr Daniels was unlikely because of the manner in which he is auctioning the equipment and the high esteem in which he is held.

He said: “He has an enormous amount of stuff.

He’s obviously having an early spring clean. Before, when he’s had a clear out, it’s happened very much within the magic world.

“Now there’s some really quite affordable quirky items that others might be able to pick up.”
