A COMMUNITY is preparing to remember a 12-year-old dubbed a town’s princess during her battle against an incurable brain tumour.

Chloe Clark, from Shildon, County Durham, was dubbed Shildon’s Princess after she fulfilled her final wish of becoming a princess for a day during a royal-themed party to celebrate her baptism in October 2009.

Thousands of pounds were raised in three months as her loved ones set about making her wish come true.

Chloe, who attended The Oaks School, in Spennymoor, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2004, which slowed her mental development and affected her balance.

She was cancer-free for five years before a second, larger tumour was discovered in April 2009.

Despite another operation and chemotherapy, she died on January 18, last year.

As her loved ones prepare to remember Chloe on the first anniversary of her death tomorrow, they are also preparing to raise money for the Clic Sargent charity, which helps young cancer sufferers and their families.

Her godmother, Vicky Nelson, is among the organisers of a drag act, a show in which power tools are used to create fountains of sparks, and a disco, in Shildon, next month, to raise money for the charity in memory of Chloe.

She said: “We always wanted to keep her memory going, raise money to help other kids and give something back to the charity for what they did to help Chloe.

“There has been a wonderful response so far, with people offering to donate raffle prizes and asking for tickets.”

Chloe’s mother, Clare Burdon, who lives in Shildon with daughter Lauren, 15, and son Lewis, seven, said: “I am completely overwhelmed by the support people have shown to us – everybody has been fantastic.

“It has been hard, but we are keeping each other going.”

The event will take place in Old Shildon Club, from 7pm to 11.30pm on Saturday, February 19.

Tickets are £5, on 07724- 923195.

Meanwhile, Miss Nelson’s son Jay-Lee, 12, and his friend Connor Raine, who are members of the Phoenix Muay Thai Boxing Club, in Shildon, will hold a sponsored spar this month in aid of the charity.
