Burglars got away with an unknown amount of cash after breaking in to Bishop Auckland College in the early hours of this morning.
Police arrived at the college in Woodhouse Lane, Bishop Auckland, to find an ATM inside the building had been raided.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said tonight that entry had been forced and an unknown amount of cash had been taken.
Firefighters reported the burglary after they attended the College after a report of an automatic fire alarm at 2.28am.
Police are appealing for anyone with information or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in Woodhouse Lane and the black path, which leads towards towards Greenfield Road, between 9pm on Friday night and 3am this morning to call Bishop Auckland CID on 0345 60-60-365.
