A TIME capsule has been buried on the site of a new whitewater sports course with the help of 30 children.
The youngsters from the Village Primary School, in Thornaby, near Stockton, visited the £4.6m Tees Barrage course yesterday after being invited by British Waterways.
The capsule was filled with items including a mobile phone, MP3 player, a daily newspaper, magazine and coins.
Headteacher Patricia Gibb said: “This is exciting for our children to know they have played a part in leaving clues to the future generation about what life was like in 2011, and it helps them develop a sense of place in their community and the environment.”
The main course, which is due to open in the spring, will be 310 metres long with a slope of 3.7 metres, with four main pools and three small ones. There will also be a 95-metre course, which has a 3.7-metre slope and a fast wave.
The venue is one of the proposed Olympic training camps for the 2012 Olympic games.
