TADEA Middlesbrough Lions v Stockport Falcons Sunday 4pm
Junior Session switches to Sunday 2-3pm at Eston £3
Great Family Entertainment This Sunday
TADEA Middlesbrough Lions will host the high-flying Stockport Falcons this Sunday at Eston Sports Academy in what should be a mouth watering game for the neutral and more than likely a horrible, intense and nervous affair for the coaches.
Stockport are flying high in the league this season after mediocrity last year. Young Coach; Andy White has assembled a talented and hard working team currently sitting pretty in fifth place where they have beaten 3 of the 4 teams above them! They have managed to beat last seasons champions Huddersfield as well as league powerhouses Warrington and Hull. Not to mention the victory over TADEA Lions in Greater Manchester last October.
Most recently the Falcons overwhelmed Durham Wildcats 82-48 and will be coming to Eston full of confidence. Defence is the key to their success as out of 11 games, they have kept the opposition score to below 68pts. They have the best points against record in the league and have held high scoring teams such as Hull and Warrington to 67pts apiece. Coach White has definitely instilled the right ethos into his team and TADEA Lions will not only have to figure out how to break their water tight defence but more importantly to match it.
The main threats for Falcons come in the form of free scoring Jimmy Royle and Anthony Kuczaj although they have other players that can step up in Anthony Briscoe and captain Kevin Hodgers.
TADEA Lions though are not intimidated and will be looking for a repeat of last seasons comfortable result at Eston. Lions guard Ben Thompson, who was one of the saviours against Bury at the weekend feels there is a change in determination in the Lions squad “Last weekend was tough, especially after the Christmas break. We didn’t perform to our potential and were given a big kick up the backside by the coach. On a positive we proved our ability under pressure against Bury and I believe you will see a more determined and harder working Lions from now on.” Said Ben.
Middlesbrough will be without athletic forward Rob Wright, but the squad have proven their ability in depth recently and Coach Thomson is not afraid of using the full team. The unavailable Wright should therefore provide an opportunity for another with Anthony Humes name being touted as a good replacement. Humes started against Warrington and got good minutes but the young big man will have to justify his time with the stats. Wright was a good double-double points and rebounds man, even on a bad day and if Humes can contribute in a similar way it would bode well for Stockport and the future.
Tip off is at 4pm at Eston Sports Academy. Spectators are asked to be seated by 3.30pm. Tickets only £4 adults & £3 children.
