A SENIOR councillor is urging residents to recycle cards and real trees from the festive season.
Until Friday, undecorated Christmas trees can be left at 13 collection points around the borough of Darlington so they can be turned into wood chip.
Christmas cards, wrapping paper and calendars can be put in blue bags for the fortnightly recycling collection or be taken to the household waste recycling centre in Whessoe Road.
Nick Wallis, the council’s cabinet member for sustainable environment and climate change, said: “Our Christmas tree recycling scheme is always popular and I would urge everyone to drop their real trees off at one of the collection points before January 14. Christmas cards can also be recycled as part of our kerbside recycling scheme.”
The collection points are: B & Q, in Whessoe Road, Darlington; Charnwood Drive, High Grange, Darlington; Eastbourne Park, Falmer Road entrance, Darlington; Heighington Village Hall car park, Heighington; Homebase, in Darlington Retail Park off Yarm Road, Darlington; household waste recycling centre, in Whessoe Road, Darlington; Hurworth Grange Community Centre, in Croft Road, Hurworth; North Park, Cumberland Street entrance, Darlington; Rockwell Pastures, Hutton Avenue entrance, Darlington; South Park, Bedford Street entrance, Darlington; Sugar Hill Park, Prior Street entrance, Cockerton; Middleton St George Community Centre, Middleton St George; Woodburn Nursery, in Salutation Road, Darlington.
