Police investigating the death of a terminally-ill former serviceman in a house blaze say there appears to be no suspicious circumstances.
James Kirkpatrick, who was 75, died in the blaze at the home where he lived alone in Birch Grove, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, on December 30.
Neighbours had said the pensioner had been harassed by yobs in the months leading up to his death.
Today s spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the preliminary report from fire service investigators was complete although further investigations are being carried out to determine the exact cause.
"However, from the initial examinations of the scene, there appears to be no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement," he said.
An inquest into Mr Kirkpatrick's death was opened and adjourned on Tuesday.
