WORK to repair a road that was damaged by subsidence last winter is to continue this year.
Durham County Council is planning to conduct further ground investigations on the B6300 at Burnigill Bank, at Brandon, near Durham City.
The investigation follows subsidence on the embankment next to the road.
Consultants are then expected to advise the authority what long-term solution options are suitable for the road.
Dave Wilcox, strategic highways manager for Durham County Council, said: “We have carried out some temporary repair work which has allowed the road to reopen and we are continuing to monitor the situation and check for any further settlement.
“We are in discussions with our partners Aecom and further investigations need to be carried out before a final road layout can be completed.”
The council is also working with Network Rail on the repairs.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “There is a land slip at Browney Curve, on Burnigill Bank which affects the railway and the road.
“We have carried out repairs in the past and have no works planned at the site in the immediate future, although we are still evaluating the best long-term solution for the site.
“The slope instability on the hill affects both the railway line and the road above, hence our information sharing exercise with Durham County Council.”
