SUPERMARKET staff have raised £2,500 for a lifeboat organisation in a charity football match.
Shop workers and managers from 12 Co-operative stores across North Yorkshire went head-to-head in the football match in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Association.
The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes at Whitby Town FC’s Turnbull Ground on Sunday.
It was attended by more than 200 people.
Middlesbrough FC footballer Beth Mead opened the event, which also included a tombola and raffle.
Co-operative local operations manager Andrew Thompson said: “The charity match was a huge success. We exceeded our expectations and raised £2,500 on the day and through The Co-operative stores over the past few months we have already collected an astounding £10,000.
“I would like to thank Whitby Town for their hospitality and everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts to help collect £12,500 for such a worthy cause as the RNLI.”
Staff have also raised funds in charity bike rides, the Great North Run and the Amsterdam Marathon.
