HEALTH officials have approved a proposal to close minor injuries units at two community hospitals despite widespread public opposition.
Board members at NHS North Yorkshire and York agreed to close the minor injuries services at the Lambert Hospital, in Thirsk, and the Friary Hospital, in Richmond.
A decision on whether to close the service at St Monica's Hospital, in Easingwold, was deferred until the next board meeting to allow further consultation with local health officials.
The decision was made despite opposition from councillors at North Yorkshire County Council and groups representing older people in the affected districts.
