GORDON STRACHAN raised more than £10,000 for a charity set up by a former footballer after his young son tragically died.
Mr Strachan, who resigned as manager of Middlesbrough Football Club this week, took part in the Tees Pride Middlesbrough 10km race last month.
He led a team of 15 running in aid of the Finlay Cooper Fund.
It was set up four years ago by Boro player Colin Cooper and his wife, Julie, to help children’s causes after their two-year-old choked to death on a toy.
Mr Strachan, who raised £10,104, competed alongside Mr Cooper and former right-back Curtis Fleming.
He passed the finish line in 51 minutes and 53 seconds.
Last week, the fund donated £2,500 to help Mitchell Spencer, who has cerebral palsy and is going to the US for life-changing surgery.
The next event for the fund will be a sports dinner at Hardwick Hall, in Sedgefield, County Durham, on February 25.
