THE father of a teenager who died outside a Greek nightspot after being thrown out by bouncers is determined to see justice done.

Matthew Cryer died of brain injuries after he was found outside a nightclub on the Greek island of Zakynthos in July 2008.

His father, David, has always maintained the 17-yearold engineering student was killed unlawfully and last year an inquest near his Sheffield home agreed.

The latest development in his quest for justice has seen legal documents from the Greek authorities being handed over to the family’s Athensbased lawyer.

The documents will now be sent to the family’s solicitor.

Mr Cryer, who until recently lived in Lazenby, near Redcar, in east Cleveland, said: “This has been going on for more than two years. Every time we think we have a break through it seems to go wrong.

“Since day one the authorities have just tried to get it to go away, but we won’t let that happen. We firmly believe they are more concerned about protecting the tourist industry than in prosecuting the perpetrators.”

The inquest in Chesterfield heard Matthew sustained fatal head injuries and there was evidence he was dragged from the Cocktail and Dreams nightclub in Laganas and punched by bouncers.

The distraught family set up justice4matthew.com in memory of their son which features a petition to put pressure on the Greek authorities to conduct a full inquiry.
