Feeling quite nervous because some major changes to The Northern Echo are introduced from tomorrow.

Readers often don't like change. I remember the initial reaction from traditional readers to the paper going tabloid but it quickly proved to be a popular move.

Tomorrow, we introduce a new Echo Memories local history supplement. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time because I know how popular nostalgia is.

My deputy Chris Lloyd is a great writer and local historian and he's led the project, developing his own popular Echo Memories column into a pullout which I'm sure readers will love.

The supplement is being sponsored by Mack Solicitors and I'm grateful for their support.

The 7 Days TV and entertainment guide has a new look tomorrow.

It's been part of the Thursday paper for many years but was in need of a revamp. The potentially controversial part is removing the TV and radio listings out of the Thursday publication and into a new Weekend supplement to be launched on Saturday.

All the other regular elements of 7 Days - theatre, cinema, what's on, music and walks - will remain.

The Weekend supplement is 48 pages of TV and radio listings, plus pages of puzzles, celebrity news, food, travel, homes and gardens.

The price of the paper will go up by 20p to 65p on Saturdays. Up to now, the Echo has been the only paper which hasn't increased its price on Saturdays so I hope readers will still see 65p as good value for money.

The Saturday Echo will certainly be a weighty offering with the new Weekend guide added to the Saturday sports pullout and the ever popular Local Heroes grass roots sport supplement.

Fingers crossed that readers like it.
