A PENSIONER and a cyclist have been seriously injured in a collision in a North Yorkshire village.
Police said a 72-year-old local man was crossing Station Road in Ampleforth, near Helmsley, at 4.30pm yesterday when he collided with a cycle being ridden away from the village centre.
The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken by land ambulance to the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.
The pedestrian sustained serious head injuries and was flown by air ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The road was closed for three hours while police investigated.
Witnesses to the collision, which happened close to the village primary school, are asked to call traffic constable Emma Wallace, of Thirsk road policing group, on 0845-6060247.
