A WOMAN proposing to hold swingers’ parties in a dale has hit back at claims they are inappropriate.

The woman, calling herself Estelle Pollard, claims to be behind Wolsingham’s Swinging In The Manor.

She told The Northern Echo yesterday the County Durham club has no members and is not operational as a business.

The club hit the headlines after appearing on a website and a Facebook page, advertising its fully-stocked dungeon and spacious outdoor hot tub.

The site asks couples and singles to pay a £25 membership fee, but does not disclose its location.

Ms Pollard said she was testing the water to see if there was a market and no one had shown any interest.

County councillor for Weardale John Shuttleworth said some might view the club as inappropriate for the area and Ms Pollard should consult residents.

Police say the club is not breaking any laws as no money is being exchanged for sexual gratification.

Ms Pollard accused Councillor Shuttleworth of trying to score political points.

“He is blowing this all out of proportion,” she said.

“I’m not doing anything wrong.”

She also claimed the area is “full of swingers”.

“It is not dirty, it is something that takes place between two consenting adults.”

She added that should the venture become a business, she would seek any required licensing.

The site advertises tea and coffee, but stipulates people should bring their own alcohol.

Ms Pollard says two comments which appear to be from customers were put up by her and friends who attended a private party.

One reads: “I went there last Saturday with my partner and we both enjoyed the night. The rooms were very clean and the people were friendly.”

Durham County Council has confirmed officers are investigating the incident.

Craig Rudman, the authority’s licensing manager, said: “Durham County Council is currently looking into the situation to find out whether any licenses, permissions or authorisations are, or would be, required.

“Until our inquiries are completed it would inappropriate for us to comment further.”
