A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a collision on a County Durham road.

Nigel Wright, 45, of West Crescent, Darlington, was heading west through Middleton-In-Teesdale when he was in collision with a car driven by a 66-year-old woman. It is believed the car was pulling out of a drive when the accident happened at around 2.50pm on Saturday.

Mr Wright suffered fatal injuries when his yellow Ducati motorbike hit the woman's blue Mercedes Benz and he was thrown from the machine.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened on a B road called Laneside outside the woman's Low Thatch Lea home.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries only and did not need hospital treatment.

The road was closed to traffic until 7pm and police are asking anyone who saw the collision, and has not already come forward to ring the accident investigation unit on 0191-375-2159.
