A SUB-POSTMASTER accused of killing his wife arrived at Teesside Crown Court this morning where he is expected to hear details of a new trial date.

Robin Garbutt was last week released on bail while tests are carried out on a possible murder weapon, a 58cm metal bar.

It was discovered near the post office where Diana Garbutt's body was found, in Melsonby, near Richmond, North Yorkshire, on March 23 this year.

Robin Garbutt denies murdering his wife.

The 45-year-old, who had been held on remand since he was charged in April, had been due to face a trial at Teesside Crown Court but this was postponed last week to allow time for the additional tests.

The judge also approved Mr Garbutt's release on bail.

A new trial date will be set today. Prosecutors have asked for a delay of at least four weeks.

Mrs Garbutt was found dead in the living quarters of the post office and store she ran with her husband.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the 40-year old had suffered serious head injuries.
