Phil Wilson Labour’s sitting MP held on to his Sedgefield Constituency seat with 18,141 votes.
Labour achieved 45% of the vote while the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats achieved 23% and 20% of the vote. Other candidates pooled 15% of the vote.
The Labour Party increased their majority to 8,696 – from a bi-election two years ago when Tony Blair stood down – from a majority of just under 7,000.
Agent, Paul Trippet said, “We are very pleased with the results, all the hard work that Phil and the team has done has paid off. Phil will work hard for the people of his constituency which also includes Ferryhill”.
