A FORMER schoolhouse was called into service to act as a polling station for a North Yorkshire village.
The Old Schoolhouse, in Great Langton, near Northallerton – the home of local polling clerk Linda Williams – was taken over as the best place for locals to cast their vote.
This was not the only unusual polling station in the area yesterday – a home at Scriddlehurst, in Marske, Cleveland, was also taken over as a polling station.
Thirsty electors in one North Yorkshire constituency could buy a pint while they voted in their local pub.
Voters in Leeming Bar, North Yorkshire, found their polling station in the White Rose Hotel.
The set-up did not deter voters and a brisk trade was seen at Leeming Bar, which falls into the Richmond constituency.
Fighting the seat are William Hague, Conservative, Eileen Driver, Labour, Lawrence Meredith, Liberal Democrat and Leslie Rowe, of the Green Party.
