A hospital trust in North Yorkshire has opened a treatment centre to help patients who have developed leg ulcers.
Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale Primary Care Trust has opened the centre at Northway Clinic, in Scarborough.
Leg ulcers are usually present in older patients with other underlying difficulties and are often the result of circulatory problems or injuries.
All patients attending the clinic are referred by their district nurse for treatment.
The clinic, which is held every Monday and Thursday afternoon, uses proven research-based methods, including Doppler ultrasound and bandaging, to tackle patients' problems, as well some innovative methods such as ultrasound or treatment with live maggots.
District nurse, Julie Scott, who runs the clinic, said: "Even though we've only been open a short while we are absolutely delighted with the way things are going.
"Our patients are enjoying the treatment they are receiving and are pleased with the way that their conditions are improving.
"We feel that it's a really worthwhile benefit to the community."
