A FORMER pit village has paid its own tribute to miners who died at work.
Quarrington Hill Community Association has created a memorial in the garden of the community centre that was unveiled at a special ceremony on Saturday.
The memorial takes the form of a tub from the village's former colliery and there is a Davy Lamp that will be perpetually lit in memory of the pitmen who lost their lives in accidents.
The memorial was dedicated by the Area Dean, Father Keith Lumsdon, and music for the occasion was provided by Ferryhill Brass Band.
