FAIRTRADE fashion will take to the catwalk this month as students put a world issue on a local stage.
Northallerton College members of the Environmental Action Group Agenda 21 scheme will stage the event in Northallerton Town Hall on Friday, June 23.
The town was recently awarded Fairtrade status and the students staff a Fairtrade snack stall every week at the college.
The fashion show will feature clothes by Traidcraft, People Tree and Gossypium.
It will run from 7.30pm to 10pm. Admission is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions. Proceeds will go to the African Well Project.
The event also has the backing of Margaret Parks, of the United Reformed Church, town councillor John Blevins, Barkers and The Mane Hair Salon.
Youth worker Emma Casson said: "Fairtrade is the only way forward in terms of sustainable development. Everything else is highly polluting and exploitative." Traidcraft spokeswoman Veronica Piekosz said: "This will show people that Fairtrade is not fuddy duddy any more and you can wear it with pride."
Tickets can be obtained from the college, the Body Shop and The Mane Salon, in Northallerton.
