A NORTH-EAST Royal Navy Reservist Commander is returning to the region after a four-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Commander Jeremy Stocker, 47, who lives in Durham with his wife, Judith, was posted to the troublespot in February, where he joined the headquarters of the Multi-National Brigade (South).

Based at a large coalition airbase near the ancient city of Kandahar, Commander Stocker was in charge of co-ordinating information operations across the southern six provinces of Afghanistan.

Normally based at the Royal Navy's North-East HQ at HMS Calliope, in Gateshead, Commander Stocker's deployment saw him co-ordinate a range of military activity designed to influence decision-makers in support of political and military objectives.

Commander Stocker served in the regular Royal Navy for 20 years before transferring to the Reservists in 1996. He is also a freelance writer and defence consultant.
