FOUR groups have won through to the final of a battle of the bands, a key feature of a rock festival planned as part of a day of summer celebrations in Bedale.

Ten bands from Bedale High School and colleges in the area took part in knockout competitions during two nights of semi-finals in the Chantry Hall, in Bedale.

Judging saw the four finalists whittled down to Epic, Isotopia, Point of View and Next Best Thing, who will all be on stage for the rock festival in Bedale Hall park next Saturday.

The semi-finals raised £710 towards the rock festival, and that will be matched by sponsor Barclays Bank. John Gill Ltd and Procters Coaches are sponsoring the festival.

The summer celebrations will begin on Friday with a large funfair by Crow and Sons, of Northallerton, in the park from 6pm to 10pm.

During the celebrations, the following day between 10am and 11pm, a highlight will be the annual parade of decorated floats through the town by local Scouts and Brownies.

The theme this year will be films.
