PLANS for a town cycle route have been scrapped.
County council officers proposed a cycle path to link the Brentwood and Maythorne estates, in Leyburn, with the town's primary school.
However, Richmondshire Area Committee voted to abandon the scheme after several objections were raised.
Leyburn Town Council feared the route would encourage cyclists to use dangerous road junctions and motorists to use quiet residential roads.
Councillor Roger Harrison-Topham said local cyclists would know the way anyway without the need for signs.
