A FREE sports session for children on their half-term holiday was held in north Durham yesterday.
The event took place on the ball court that was installed last year in Craghead Community Park, near Stanley.
There were three sessions throughout the day, for different age groups, to give young people a chance to try a variety of sports.
Healthy refreshments were provided free of charge throughout the day to those taking part, by Derwentside Primary Care Trust's food and health project.
The sessions were organised by Craghead Development Trust, Groundwork West Durham and Derwentside Leisure Service's Try Five project.
It launched a three-year programme of sporting activities on the site, which have been funded through the Barclays Spaces for Sport programme.
Kath Ivens, from Groundwork West Durham, said: "The project aims to encourage people to become healthier and more active, through a programme of activities, coaching courses and sports festivals.
"The ball court is available for any community group, sports club or other organisation that would like to use it, and is open to the public when it isn't being used for a formal session."
