A COMMUNITY is celebrating a £1,000 grant towards an outdoor play area for its nursery.

The Children's Foundation Regional Small Grants Panel has given the money to Horden Youth and Community Association.

Barbara Gubbins, chief executive of the foundation, said: "I am thrilled that we can continue to support these community projects.

"Projects such as the Horden Youth and Community Association continue to offer children a safe environment in which to play and learn, and with the help of our grant will be able to expand and make a vital difference to the lives of children in their area."

Karen Hyrons, the centre's development manager, said: "We are so grateful to have received this grant. Without such support, our centre would not be able to do the things it does to help the local community, and that is at the heart of why we exist - to provide services and facilities relevant to the community's needs.

"The £1,000 will make such a difference to the lives of children living within Horden."
