PLANS to use a field as a helicopter landing site have come under fire from people living nearby.
Guy Brudenell has applied for permission to change the use of the field, which lies 170 metres from his home at Beechcroft, in Nawton, near Helmsley.
The site would be used for a single helicopter, which is currently landing and taking off from his garden.
Mr Brudenell submitted the application after complaints from residents.
Nawton Parish Council has objected to the plans. Clerk Tony Hewlett said: "The flight-path would be over livestock, especially at lambing time. It is too close to the village and too near to the primary school."
Three letters of objection from people living nearby have also been sent to Ryedale District Council.
Legal firm Ward Hadaway, on behalf of Mr Brudenell, said: "The applicant uses his helicopter as a person would use a private car. The change of use will not have a detrimental effect on the character or appearance of the area.
"The development will not cause unacceptable levels of noise disturbance. The site has been located so that it is as far away as possible from the existing houses/proposed housing."
Planning officials recommended the plans be approved with the conditions that a maximum of four flights a day should only take place only between 7am and 7pm.
Councillors will discuss the application on Tuesday.
