VISITORS to a seaside town can expect to pay more for their parking next week.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has announced its first increase in car parking charges for two years.

From Monday, the cost of parking for two hours rises from £1.10 to £1.20, while the all-day charge is increased from £2.10 to £2.50.

The 60p one-hour tariff will not change and there will be no change for the on-street bays in Redcar High Street, Cleveland Street and Queen Street or for the discounted bays in Newcomen Terrace and Granville Terrace.

Eric Empson, the council's cabinet member for strategic planning, development and infrastructure, said: "We have not had an increase for two years, but we have improved the security and supervision of our car parks. This is an increase to reflect that and the wages of staff involved in the operation."
