PEOPLE with an interest in the paranormal and things that go bump in the night can take part in a ghost hunt at one of the region's haunted spots.
Regular ghost watches are held at the Heugh Battery on Hartlepool's Headland, with the next event taking place on Saturday, June 24.
The battery dates back to Victorian times, but was the scene of the first German bombardment on British soil, on December 16, 1914, during the First World War.
It is believed that many of the soldiers who served there still make their presence felt during the monthly overnight ghost-hunting vigils.
Claire Munroe, marketing officer for Hartlepool Borough Council's arts, museums and events service, said: "During the night, with the help of our brilliant psychic mediums, guests take part in séances and other paranormal experiments.
"We encourage people to take photographs, which often turn out to be very intriguing.
"Nothing is staged or put on for show. This is a genuine opportunity to experience a real haunted site right here on our own doorstep.
"During our previous events, we have had plenty of paranormal activity. However, it is not as scary as people might think and is a really fun night."
Places are limited each month, so people are recommended to book early. The price is £20 per person and proceeds go to the Heugh Battery Trust, which is restoring the battery to its former glory.
