CHILDREN got crafty at workshops yesterday to show them that libraries can be fun.
A number of youngsters turned out at Thornaby Central Library for the papercraft safari session, where they were able to make animal masks and put their artistic skills to the test.
The workshop was part of a half-term programme organised by Stockton library service, which will continue for the rest of the week across the borough.
Helen Wilberforce, Stockton's children's and young persons' librarian, said: "We are aiming to attract children to libraries to show them they are fun and welcoming places.
"We don't want youngsters thinking libraries are scary places where they can't enjoy themselves, so we always organise these craft sessions during the school holidays.
"The session in Thornaby was very well-attended and everyone had a good time."
Sessions will be held at Ingleby Barwick Library today, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm; at Stockton Central Library tomorrow, from 2pm to 3.30pm; at Roseworth Library tomorrow, from 2pm to 3pm; at Norton Library on Friday, from 10.30am to 11.30am; and at Thornaby's Westbury Street Library on Friday, from 2pm to 4pm.
Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult and people are advised to book places.
